Van Jones: Nothing Redemptive About This Country.

And the hits just keep coming. In this clip Jones explains that he is most proud of the work he did when he hated America.

Much more coverage of this Van Jones event can be found on my homepage.
The P-Oed Patriot
has more as well.
Thanks to Ben for the audio!

  2. His opinion of America is no different than Obama's.

  3. He'd be right at home as a Hugo Chávez brown shirt. What a tragedy that he was born in a country with freedom he doesn't want or deserve.

  4. Anon, one can add Jeremiah Wright, also.

  5. The country that [largely] contributed to the huge life extensions (75y), feeds a lot of the world, landed a man on the moon, drove killing mobs back out of France..., and where the poorest among us has shoes/TV/Cell-phones - that country needs redemption?

  6. If Mr. Jones truly wants to HELP someone, perhaps he might start by leaving the US altogether. May I suggest a country more suited to his liking where he could possibly effect some 'redemptive' change? I would suggest Sierra Leone, one of the poorest places on earth, where many do not have reliable water supplies. Honestly, listening to this man carp like a petulant child is pathetic...join me in buying this loser a one way ticket off the continent, he's helping no one but himself.

  7. Van Jones is just another professional Angry Young Black Man, whining to the world about how mean America is, completely oblivious to the fact that in no other country would he have the privileged life he has.

  8. I think most people are pretty decent. Given the brief nature of the quote and the fact that it sounds to me like he was talking about his past and how he WAS, I think that this could easily be like the Shirley Sherrod video where the clip largely goes against the rest of the message.

    Van Jones looks to be in his 40's. When he was a young man America had come a long way but we were not nearly as far developed on racial equality as we are now. I could see how a young black man at that time could be justifiably be an angry young man. I can also personally attest to the fact that a lot of the work I did when I was a young man was done for vanity and to gather glory for myself. But despite my impure motives I feel like I did some of the best work when I was young and accomplished things I was too dumb to know were impossible.

    Van Jones might or might not be a vile human being but we are better than this. Taking short quotes with no context and interpreting them in the worst possible way is beneath us.

  9. Van Jones and Obama are different in one aspect;
    Obama has not left a paper trail

  10. What happened to the greatest form of patriotism being dissent? What is wrong with hating the place you live in and working to make it better? Even if better looks a whole lot different? If I lived in N. STL I would be out trying to make it look like a much different place.
