This is an old Bill O'Reilly argument, cause ratings have to mean good debate is being presented and facts are being presented fairly. Open a book not written by Sarah Palin, read a journalistically credible newspaper, try to stomach NPR, just plain use your brain.

The people with drive and hard work ethic left old country Europe so they could strive for a better life. You want European Socialism and Unions running everything than go to Germany! Unions control everything. No one ever gets above the middle class. No one strives for something more because the society is set up where it is virtually unattainable.

I think what bill maher means is that is works as well as capitalism, is not evil and should not be feared. European socialism has given rise to Ferrari, Lamborghini, giorgio Armani, Hugo boss. As much as America likes to think that is on top of the world and the centre of luxury. It isn't. In fact, most exceptional and luxurious things come from Europe. America of course has things that it does well. If European socialism doesn't work and is evil, why do Europeans have a higher standard of living? Why do they live longer? Why are they happier and have better educations? We shouldn't swallow this lie that America is #1 at everything. Europe is now the centre of the sciences, especially physics, much to the dismay of American physicists like Neil degrasse Tyson who recently gave a talk on the subject. Lawrence krauss, another brilliant American physicist wrote recently about the failure of American science and the attack on it by religious fundamentalists. It is a uniquely American trait that we need to believe that we are the best at everything, and everyone else is inept and corrupt. Wise up.
Go there and stay. Please. See if your show has more of an audience than the few hundred you have here.
